In this all-round IT position you will touch on different aspects of IT. This role requires multi-tasking capabilities and a can-do mentality. For this role we are looking for a hands-on system engineer who has the ability to lead a small team. Experience with Linux and Market Data Technologies as well as experience in the Financial Service Industry are required to be successful in this role.
As the Senior Unix / Linux System Engineer you are able to make vital decisions in regards to the full IT operations. You thoroughly think through scenarios to stay ahead of critical issues and when they do occur you are able to act upon it.
Responsibilities
• Oversee all IT infrastructure, applications and projects
• Problem, Incident and Change management
• Be aware of any new technology that can prove to be a competitive advantage and constantly look for ways to improve any existing hardware/software/network configuration.
• Liaise with vendors to negotiate contracts and maintain vendor relations to ensure that our expectations are met.
• Troubleshoot all exchange related issues either directly with an exchange or broker
• Install new exchange connections while enhancing existing connections
• Work closely with the traders to ensure that their requirements are met
• Investigate alternative monitoring tools to have better control over the environment
Your technical profile
• 8-10 years of IT experience preferably in the Financial Services Industry
• Strong working knowledge of Unix/Linux/windows server and desktop environments
• Excellent understanding of WAN/LAN technologies (i.e. routing protocols, TCP, UDP and multicast traffic)
• Full understanding of infrastructure operations, software and design
• Understanding of and the ability to configure redundant mission critical enterprise class systems (100% uptime)
• Proven communications skills with both internal and external parties
• Good understanding of the FIX protocol is a plus
• Good understanding environments like RMDS; Bloomberg, Reuters Dealing, etc. is a plus
• Proven history of working in a high pressure fast paced work environment (experience on a trading floor is a strong advantage)
• Understanding of server hardware and management utilities
